Patience
Patience is a key ingredient within marriage. This is especially necessary when you are first married. That first year of marriage can be extremely difficult as you get used to the new situation of living and sleeping with someone else, of catering to their needs and thinking of them rather than just always pleasing yourself. You need patience because a good marriage doesn’t just happen. It takes time. Like plants it needs to grow. So be patient as you adjust to each other, patient with your spouse and also with yourself and your expectations.
Of course it’s not just in those early days that patience is needed. Patience is a necessary requirement at any stage of a marriage. No matter how good the marriage is, there are always going to be time when your spouse upsets you or you are not quite in sinc. Patience and not reacting too hastily can alleviate or ease a lot of problems.
Persistence
Persistence or perseverance, call it what you like, but it is necessary. There will be times when marriage feels like hard work. You could be tempted to give up. But I urge you to hang in there and keep working at your marriage and don’t take the easy option. There are no guarantees that you’d be any happier divorced. In fact statistics prove the opposite is true. So the better option is to persevere with what you have and try and improve your marriage and focus on the positives.
Positives It’s easier to find the positives in your marriage if you’re actually looking for them. Make a check list of the positives about your spouse and try and make a point of praising them each day for at least one of them.
